At EFR Mini Heelers we lovingly breed and raise small but quality, healthy Red and Blue Heeler puppies in Santa Rosa, CA.

Mini heelers are like full size Australian Cattle Dogs, only smaller, with all the wonderful attributes of the ACD; they are alert, active, intelligent, protective and loyal. Our parent dogs are genetic disease panel tested, so our puppies will live long, healthy lives to provide you with many wonderful years of companionship.

I am KT Edens owner/manager, and lone kennel worker at EFR Mini Heelers. I have been breeding mini heelers for 7 years now. I bred full size ACDs for 20 years, spent 10 years away from breeding and started up again with mini heelers in 2015. I also breed AQHA horses.

I started back in 2015 with 5 young dogs before I learned about genetic disease testing for dogs. I’ve always done genetic testing with my horses, so I wasn’t surprised to learn that it is equally important to test the dogs. After receiving results, and learning to interpret them, using selective breeding I was able to eliminate almost all common genetic disorder genes from my parent dogs.

I have loved cattle dogs since being exposed to them at 20 years of age. I like the look, intelligence, focus, tenacity, protectiveness and loyalty that is inherent in the breed. I like the Mini heelers because they possess most of the attributes of the full-sized dogs while being a little bit more “manageable”, and I prefer their smaller stature.

I always felt I was breeding good quality dogs, with substance and minimal health issues. My program was validated last year when ASDR finally had dog shows here on the west coast. I attended with dogs I bred and raised, and one of my females was best of breed adult and went on to be Reserve Best in Show at our first show.  Then she went best of breed adult and Best in Show at our second show. Two different puppies, I brought with me to the shows, also went best of breed puppy at each show.

At Risa's Goldens, we raise an occasional litter of full English Creme Golden Retriever puppies in Kansas.  

We also cross our American females with our English males for an English/American cross that we feel is a "best of both" combination.  Our breeding dogs have hip, elbow, cardiac, and eye health clearances as well as top quality champion show bloodlines.  Our puppies are fed Life's Abundance, a top-of-the-line holistic, veterinarian-formulated dog food. Puppies are vet checked healthy and vaccinated before going to their new homes. Our puppies are sold as family companions with limited (pet) AKC registration.​Please check with us about our up-coming litters!   ​

We started raising Goldens in 1995 when our 6 children were growing up here on our 23 wooded acres near Hillsdale Lake.  We purchased a show Golden puppy for Risa with the idea that Risa would continue learning to show dogs in our local 4-H club. Although Risa lost interest in showing dogs, she and all of us fell in love with the Golden Retriever.  Our children are now grown but continue to love the wonderful Golden Retriever and have dogs of their own.
