My name is Lisa Newman and I am the owner of
Awesome Paws of Missouri. Growing up, we
always had a variety of dogs in our family, which
is why I couldn't settle on just one breed of dog
to love on. I actually never thought to do this as
a business but after giving it much thought, I
decided to do something I love instead of
working for someone else. Being self employed
isn't new to me since our family farmed for many
years and I knew the hard work involved. After
making the decision to really dive in and work
diligently at this, it began a growing passion
within me. Each dog has its own personality,
just like our children, and to watch them go from
puppy to adult is a rewarding journey. As
puppies go to their furever homes, it gives me a
sense of pride, knowing I've given it my "all" to
help rear the best puppies I can for a
family. Our dogs live on our farm and run and
play daily outdoors in the fields, adventuring in
the forest or nosing around in the barn.
Since I have several breeds (Akita, Poodle,
Labrador Retriever, Golden Retriever, Bernese
Mountain dog, Labradoodle, Goldendoodle and
Bernedoodle) the thing I love most about them is
they are all so different in their likes and
dislikes. Some LOVE water while others HATE it,
some are VERY active while others would rather
lay around and enjoy the day. Their differences
are small but they all have one thing in
common; they all deserve a loving, healthy and
furever home to live the life of a dog! I just love
our goofy dogs that love to sniff out the squirrels
as they run up the trees, others that enjoy
digging to China looking for field mice and those
who just want a loving pat on the head, as they
pass by your legs, on the way to the shade tree
to relax. I probably won't get rich doing this but
it sure is rewarding! I actually feel like I'm
making a difference in this world by providing
happy, healthy puppies to families in need of a
loving companion. Sometimes it's hard to
decide what brings more joy: raising the
adorable puppies and seeing the love in their
eyes as you snuggle them or the look on a childs
face as you hand them their new puppy. Either
way, I wouldn't trade it for anything!
Reputable, ethical breeders should have one
goal in mind: to produce healthy, physically and
behaviorally stable dogs that meet the breed
standard.
Finding loving homes for our pups doesn't mean
the "transaction" is complete. I want to be
someone who is a valuable resource and mentor
for new owners throughout the life of the
dog. Questions always arise and I make myself
always available to answer questions or find out
the answer. (I don't know everything!)
Some of our goals in our breeding program is to
improve each breed with traits we love from the
parent dogs. Eliminating aggressiveness and
characteristics that don't produce wonderful
pets, helps future generations of puppies go to
loving homes that families will enjoy for years to
come. Our dogs are cared for by our local vet,
helping and guiding us along the way,
giving them the correct food choices,
vaccinations, microchipping and other health
related issues that may arise. Allowing myself to
be mentored by someone who knows more that
myself is easy for me. I learned long ago that the
wisest people are those who allow others to
learn the hard way and I glean from them! When
it comes to my puppies, I'd rather learn from
others so I have the healthiest, happiest puppies
to share with people waiting for that perfect pup!
